NASA Internships

STUDENT INTERNSHIPS AT NASA

NASA Centers across the U.S. offer a variety of internships. These internships are nationally competitive and only the highest qualified applicants will be considered. The NASA application process can be lengthy so be sure to get an early start.

Many of these internships require funding from the state-based Space Grant Consortia for the internship stipends. This requires applying to both NASA and the Nebraska Space Grant.

Eligibility Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship

  • GPA: 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (a 2.9 GPA may be rounded up to 3.0)

  • Underrepresented minorities and women are strongly encouraged to participate

  • Undergraduate and graduate students enrolled full-time in a degree-granting program at an accredited college or university in Nebraska.

In order to be eligible for funding from the Nebraska Space Grant, students need to complete 2 applications: one to NASA to be considered for the internship placement at NASA, and one to the Nebraska Space Grant to be considered for the funding. Oftentimes, a NASA Center will receive the internship application and they may be interested in inviting a student to work with them; however, they may not have the funds available to pay the student. They will then turn to the Nebraska Space Grant as the funding source. We will need to have the form completed in this online application system to consider a student for funding.

Steps to Apply for NASA Internships

1. When the applications are open, complete the NASA Internship application through the NASA system here.

2. When the applications are open, complete the Space Grant Internships Application here

NOTE: NASA Internships offer both remote and in-person opportunities. Please be aware of which you are applying to. If selected for a NASA Internship, you may be required to travel to a NASA Center to secure a NASA Badge before your internship starts. Since NASA has standardized all internship stipends, the NASA Nebraska Space Grant will not supplement these amounts for additional travel.  Please keep this in mind when budgeting.

Please submit your application as soon as possible as some NASA Centers will make internship placements months before the deadline.
